The Mystery Blogger Award

The Mystery (Brontë) Blogger Award

Let’s start with the basics; The Mystery Blogger Award, according to its creator and blogger, Okoto Enigma, is “an award for amazing bloggers with indigenous posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging and they do it with so much love and passion.”

I was very kindly nominated for this by Kept By Christ who has enjoyed learning about the Brontë’s early fiction through my blog posts.

The Rules of the Game

The rules are:

  1. Put the award logo/image on your blog
  2. List the rules.
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well
  5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself
  6. Nominate 10-20 bloggers you feel deserve the award
  7. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify)
  9. Share a link to your best post(s)

However, as much as I intend to try to stick to these rules, this wouldn’t be a blog about the Brontës without Brontë-related content, so yes, you can still expect some serious Brontë fanboy material from me here.

And here is the rule I’m going to break too: Rather than nominate so many bloggers, I’m simply going to nominate two.

3 Things About Me

  1. Okay, this one’s a given considering the nature of this site, but I’m obsessed with all things Brontë and I’ve been lucky enough to visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum’s archives and handle some of the famous tiny books. See my posts The Importance of the Child Author and  my A-Z of Charlotte Brontë’s juvenilia for more information about what these books contain.
  2. I own far too many copies of Harry Potter including British editions, American editions, French editions, illustrated editions, rare editions, and I have at least eight copies of the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I’d really like some Spanish editions; I’m not sure why because I only know approximately three words of Spanish.
  3. I’m increasingly passionate about animal rights, largely thanks to the arrival of my beautiful rescue dog, Bob the bichon frise seven years ago. You can read about Bob and the Brontë’s own animals in my post Bob the Bichon and the Brontës.

Answers to Kept By Christ’s Questions

1. What do you know or believe about Jesus Christ?

I had a fairly religious upbringing and attended a Methodist Primary School which had its own church, so we were preached to a fair bit. However, although I still identify as a Methodist, I’ve lapsed in recent years and I haven’t been an active church goer for many years, save the odd carol service at Christmas.

2. What was the motivating factor for starting your blog? Or where did the passion that inspired your blog begin?

This one’s an easy one; I wanted to introduce readers to an aspect of the Brontës that they had either never considered or did not know about. The kind feedback I’ve had from fellow bloggers on wordpress, followers on Twitter, and members of a Brontë Facebook group I am part of indicates I’m doing a reasonable job of bringing these neglected works out of the shadows.

3. What is your favorite comfort food? (This one might be the weird question lol)

Cake. It’s always cake. Unless it’s chocolate. Or crisps. Oh dear.

4. What is one thing that brings you joy?

Again, I’m keeping this literature related, but there really isn’t anything quite like opening up a crisp, new book and diving right in. I’m also a weirdo who loves the smell of old books in libraries. I think people thought I had a real problem when I spent time working in the archives of my university library, but some of those books were hundreds of years old. Endless joy.

5. What is one thing that irritates you? 😬

There are quite honestly hundreds of things I could write here, but as an English nerd and graduate, lazy spelling and the misuse of punctuation drives me insane. I understand that there are many people who for whatever reason have difficultly with written language and communication, and I am in no way insulting them. Instead I’m talking about about people who are just plain lazy and can’t be bothered to use language correctly. I am also in no way a fan of text talk and text messaging abbreviations. It’s just plain lazy people.

My Questions for my Nominees

  1. What was the last book you read?
  2. How many writings by the Brontës have you read?
  3. Are you an indoor or an outdoor person?
  4. If you were a teacher, what would your subject be?
  5. What is the one thing you should never say at a funeral? (Obviously, this is my weird question)

My Nominees

As previously stated, I’m breaking the rules here. As a fairly new blogger, I’m still building up my list of sites to follow. I’m going to nominate two bloggers; one experienced and a fairly new one like myself, but whose posts I enjoy reading on a regular basis. So, Sunshine & Celandines and Craft Bug Suzy, you have been nominated for The Mystery Blogger Award. If you’ve done this before or simply can’t be bothered it’s no big deal, at least any readers of mine will get a head’s up about two sites I enjoy and I’ve been able to spend the afternoon thinking of new ways to shoehorn the Brontës into non Brontë posts. Win win.

Thanks for reading. Find me on twitter @BronteBabeBlog where I tweet about books, the Brontës, and animal rights. I also have a side project where I blog about my love of Classic Crime Fiction over at The Classic Crime Chonicle. I’d love it if you joined me there.

  1. It was fun to read through your answers and your love for Harry Potter, cake, and Brontë’s. I’ve never read Harry Potter, perhaps I’ll read the Spanish translation someday. 😊
